The "Nordic Swan"

The "Nordic Swan" is Scandinavia's environmental seal of approval for various products, and is promoted as an international standard by the Scandinavian governments. It is awarded to products which fulfil certain criteria for reducing environmental impacts.
The "Nordic Swan" seal of approval makes it easier to identify environmentally-friendly products, and is awarded exclusively to products with an especially light impact on the environmental and health. When making the award, the entire life cycle of the product is assessed from an environmental standpoint.A product which bears the "Nordic swan" label guarantees to the consumer that it is amongst the least environmentally damaging.
The rules were decided upon by the environmental committee on which representatives of governments, consumer and environmental organisations, as well as trade and industry, are represented.

If the assessment is positive, the label is awarded for a period of three years. Compliance with the criteria is evidenced by, for example, invoices or statistics, and is monitored by independent auditors. The independence of the sign is guaranteed, the criteria are verifiable, and all relevant information is available.
